As mentioned last week, I’m working on a book-shaped project about what comes after the structures (invisible and professional) that have governed key parts of life so far, and I’m sending out my notes by postal mail.
You can subscribe here (6 editions over a year)
or participate as a correspondent.*
*I’m setting aside six correspondent slots for readers who’d like to be in exchange with me on this—you would receive the packets for free and contribute something to the project over the year (e.g.: a reference, a conversation, a synthesis session, your own notes). If that role interests you, reply to this email with a question (or few!) that you’re currently sitting with about time, care, media, work or tech.
I've got pretty clear thoughts on most of the editions above but the biggest open question for me is the AI one, and I'm reporting into it actively—so expect notes here in the newsletter as I go.
Current thesis: the best navigation skills will come from a marriage of San Francisco's literary/arts culture and its tech/knowledge work culture. I'm immersed in both right now and sitting between them feels uncomfortable and generative. In the coming months I plan to write about:
the translation problems between tech and journalism
a working theory of what a press is or should be in 2026
an examination of judgement as the starting place for utilizing intelligent tools effectively and humanely
what it takes to inhabit a system without internalizing it
what it means to navigate a world that continuously offers constructive probabilities using your own lived intuition
I’m also taking a lot of notes on the intersections of technology and fertility, journalism, publishing, labor, care, women’s health and knowledge work. And of course, there will be books added to the library! June’s is Tools for Conviviality.
Notes by Mail is the slower, printed version of this thinking—six editions across the year. If you want to receive it, subscribe by May 31. First edition (Origins) ships in June.
